The Global Gateway
With the Global Gateway, Convia offers the next generation technology to create smarter and more efficient buildings. The Global Gateway allows for the centralized management of all of a building’s subsystems from the convenience of a PC.

Global Gateway Features
Simple to Use
Traditional control systems are notoriously difficult to program and often involve calling the manufacturer to send a technician to set the programming.
The Global Gateway was meant to be extremely simple. A facility person with general PC abilities can program lighting, electrical, and HVAC events. The Gateway requires no special programming skills. It’s an intuitive and familiar looking tool.
Multiple Interface Capabilities
The Global Gateway has a Web server built-in, so it can be accessed it remotely or locally. A Web browser is used both for control and configuration.
The Gateway supports:
- Local Area Network (LAN)
- Wide Area Network (WAN)
- Connecting to the WAN (Internet Connection)
Administrators can give employees access to specific zones, which enables end users to have control of their individual workstations.
Global Gateway Capabilities
User Defined and Timed Events
The Global Gateway allows for easily programmed, user-defined events such as timed power shutdowns and time-of-day dimming and HVAC strategies.
Occupancy Based Lighting, Plug Load, and HVAC Set Points
The Global Gateway allows for integrated energy management strategies that are triggered by occupancy sensors. A single sensor can be programmed through the Global Gateway to trigger lighting levels, plug loads, and HVAC set points.
Daylight Harvesting
As light levels are recorded through the Sensor Interface Modules (SIMs) on the network, the Global Gateway can be programmed to dim lights to a predefined level.
Plug Load Control
The Global Gateway can be programmed to power down non-essential devices, such as task lights, space heaters, battery chargers, and other peripherals when not in use, which can save companies up to 20% of their annual energy.
Energy Monitoring and Reporting with the Energy Track Reporting Tool
Convia’s Global Gateway, in conjunction with the Energy Track reporting tool, continually reports on actual electrical usage by zone, allowing facility managers to track the impact of energy management strategies.
Additionally, the Energy Track reporting component allows a facility manager to compare their building’s performance to a variety of benchmarks, including different energy codes and data from energy simulation models.
End users can select from a variety of measurement perspectives:
- Energy and use types
- Fuel sources
- Specific environmental views
Based on the measurement perspectives, end users can then select the unit type they are interested in viewing:
- Kilowatt hours
- Carbon emissions
Results can be viewed in tabular or graphic format:
- Real time
- Historical snapshot
- Trending periods including minutes or years
Dynamic Load Balancing™
The Global Gateway allows facility managers to meet energy consumption targets by dynamically balancing energy usage throughout a facility. To implement Dynamic Load Balancing, users define the power usage threshold and set priority levels for the power zones on the system. The Global Gateway then adjusts dimming levels and HVAC set points based on those priorities and ensures the targeted energy consumption threshold is not exceeded.
This same functionality can be used to reduce electrical load during peak periods in order to receive rebates from local electrical utilities.
Global Gateway Highlights
- program lights, switches, and sensors from a PC
- implement timed events throughout a facility
- measure actual energy use by zone
- enable Dynamic Load Balancing and participation in Demand Response Programs
- allow for historical reporting with the Energy Track Reporting Tool
