Energy Management

Managing Energy Management

The demand for more energy efficient solutions is intensifying, with commercial buildings currently accounting for 18 percent of the nation’s total energy consumption, and energy dependence and management topping the agendas of key influencers. [1]

Convia technology integrates a facility's power delivery and other infrastructure and technology applications, including lighting, HVAC, and occupancy and daylight harvesting sensors into an energy efficient, easy-to manage platform. “Convia Enabled” Wiremold systems further enhance this capability by adding control and monitoring of office plug loads (the amount of energy drawn by devices from an electrical outlet). Convia Enabled products provide a truly integrated control solution for end-to-end power applications.

The Convia system includes state-of-the-art solutions for maximizing energy savings and empowering your facility with customized, flexible tools that grow – or move – with you. As with investing – the sooner efforts begin, the faster and better the rate of return.

Cost Savings Up Front and Over Time

Convia has an upfront installation cost that is significantly less than traditional control solutions while offering far more functionality. One study conducted by the Weidt Group found that Convia helped reduce energy consumption by as much as 30% versus the ASHRAE 90.1 2004 standard, and that it costs 32% less to implement a bundled energy strategy with Convia than with traditional electric. [2]

Convia systems offer substantial cost savings over time:

When it comes to installation, Convia provides a training course for the electrical contractors on a project to ensure they are educated prior to the time installation begins. We always send a Convia engineer to be on site to oversee the installation process. They don’t leave until the job site is up and running and you and your client are satisfied.

Convia provides design teams with a level of system capability and control flexibility that sparks innovation and creativity to achieve truly exceptional levels of performance.

Integrating Sensors and Control to Maximize Performance

With Convia, energy management accessories, such as occupancy sensors and dimming switches, can be added at any time during a building’s lifecycle without disruption. All of Convia’s components are 100% reusable, eliminating the need to fill dumpsters and landfills every time a space is reconfigured. There is no limit to how often a space can change with Convia.

A more representative way to look at energy results is to consider the combined energy savings from a set of integrated control strategies. A well-designed control system is able to share component and labor costs across different types of controls and thus reduce overall costs. The Convia framework facilitates integrated design and, thus, the associated cost benefits. Occupancy sensors, for example, will not only trigger lights to go on, they will signal the HVAC system to react as well. A single Convia Enabled component can be used for building-wide control strategies. Additionally, Convia’s logical hierarchy enables association of a single sensor with multiple appliances (e.g., an occupancy sensor controlling all the individual level items), while also allowing a single appliance to be controlled by multiple sensors (e.g., a light fixture to be controlled by both a photosensor and an occupancy sensor.)

Innovation As a Measure of Success

Through its pioneering technology, sound business strategy, and research efforts, Convia has been recognized for having been successful in moving the state of the industry forward. The real achievement, however, is not in the accolades we receive, but in the potential we realize when we work together to build something. Convia is proud to provide the knowledge that will set the standard for the next generation of smart building.
